Flume Tells Apple Music About Collaborating With Toro y Moi…

“He just came over. Um, we messed around on the synths. We’d never done music before, but, uh, it was the first time working together. And it just went incredibly well, and he’s such a pleasure to work with. Honestly there wasn’t too much to it. We just messed around, and this is what happened. He’s a super creative guy. It’s funny, actually, because I’ve been a fan of him for years. When I started this Flume Project, I actually, one of his tracks called “Talamak”, which I think came out in about 2011 or something, but it was kind of one of the blueprint songs for this project. When I heard that I was like, “Okay, I want to do music that has, you know, some of these qualities.” It has been amazing to work with such a figure in music that I’ve always had so much love for.”

Flume Tells Apple Music He’ll Put Out a Record This Year…

“Yeah, we’ll put out a record this year. I mean, I’m just working away. I’m trying to do, like, a beat a day or two ideas a day. I kind of got the blinders on, head down. And yeah, so hopefully put a record out this year. What I’m trying to do is I’m trying to have fun with music. I think sometimes I take it too seriously. And now I’m just having fun and making whatever comes to mind. And it’s, uh, it’s been really satisfying. And I’m feeling good creatively. So yeah, hopefully I’ll have plenty more to share this year.”

“So it was two sessions. The first day for sure we were at his house in Hollywood, and, like, it was very surreal. You know, he has a beautiful set up and nice view. And it sort of just flowed out. You know, it’s a very accessible poppy song. And that kind of stuff just really can only flow out when you’re comfortable.”

Toro y Moi Tells Apple Music About What He’s Been Working On…

“Yeah, I’ve been in the studio. I’ve been in the studio. I’ve got some sessions set up. I can tell you what’s going on. Uh, I can’t make any promises, but I’ve been working with Clairo, Wet, Raven Lenay. Just trying to get stuff churning, ideas constantly going. These days, like, I’ve noticed the way other artists work is just you just constantly make stuff. And it’s, uh, a slow chipping away, pretty much, until you get those ten songs or whatever. That’s when you can call it an album now.”

Background on “Snap”

The world is loud and chaotic, with constant sounds and visuals vying for your attention. AirPods Pro bring together the wireless magic of AirPods, pairing that with the power of Active Noise Cancelation. With a pinch, you can snap back and forth between Transparency mode and Active Noise Cancelation, letting you tune-in or tune-out and changing the way you experience the world around you.

In “Snap” you see the switch between Transparency and Active Noise Cancelation mode. A young woman leaves class and steps out into the busy city streets. Overwhelmed by the chaos around her, she puts in her AirPods Pro and enables Active Noise Cancelation. Instantly, the world around her transforms into a nighttime version of her same surroundings, illuminated by colorful, magical lighting. Back and forth, she transitions between the two worlds as she goes about her journey.

The campaign premieres a brand new track released today, “The Difference,” from Australian superstar, Flume, ft. Toro y Moi. The song is a highly-anticipated first taste of Flume’s new music before he embarks on a world tour, headlining multiple festivals this spring. Flume joined Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 on March 11, to discuss his new single and his involvement in the campaign, creating a unique track composition that perfectly the powers the film.

Choreographer Ryan Heffington (Euphoria, Baby Driver) worked with director Kim Gehrig to bring the two worlds to life. To achieve the “Snap” effect, Gehrig shot the entire film both in the daytime and at nighttime, allowing the seamless transition between the two worlds. Matilda Sakamoto stars in the film, dancing her way through the streets.
