MARCH 28, 2014
On Thursday (March 13th) Hollywood, CA was graced with the eclectic spinning of world renown DJ and producer, Lee Foss, who premiered his first hip hop set at the popular 1Oak LA nightclub. The Chicago native has been involved with electronic music since the late 90’s, and has been DJing and producing music since teaming up with Jamie Jones back in 2001 to become the duo known as Hot Natured through his own label company, Hot Creations. Although Lee has been known on the scene for his deep house and techno, his influence of music ranges everywhere between classic house, 80’s electro and even 90’s hip hop. His passion for the variety of music he has encountered throughout his career was made evident with Thursday night’s performance.
Throughout the night, he was able to incorporate hip hop and rap music throughout the decade’s that lit the excitement of the crowd more and more with each new song, or perhaps I was confusing the sparkling bottles floating through the crowds by the scantily dressed cocktail servers as the fire circulating on the dance floor. Either way, the crowd was ignited to move the entire set while Lee featured artists, both older and modern, such as Missy Elliot, DMX, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar. Of course, some deep and progressive house mixes were incorporated throughout the night; which only made his set more impressive and entertaining to listen and dance to, in my opinion. With sets scheduled in varying countries such as Japan, Ireland and London, Lee seems to have an exciting year ahead.
As well as individual performances, fans world wide can also anticipate festival performances including Ultra Miami, Electric Zoo Mexico City, and Mysteryland USA. It will be interesting to see where he takes his sound during his sets at upcoming events, and how it will differ from the unique experience he delivered Thursday evening. Lee Foss has successfully managed to divulge his style of sound and talent worldwide, and it was made evident at Thursday’s event that his ability to showcase a diversity of music will only continue to evolve.
