Meet PAUZA, the Havana duo reinventing Cuban Music. Resident at FAC, the most important multicultural Center in Habana.

Hi ladies! Where in the world are you right now? I know you just announced an August tour – are there any places in particular that you’re most excited to play at?

We’re currently in Cuba, but we’re itching to return to Mexico City ??

Release-wise, what are your plans for the rest of 2019?

We have so many things planned for the rest of the year! Stay in touch with our social media to find out about our upcoming projects.

If you had to choose three words to describe your music, what would they be?

Flavor. Tradition. Culture.

Describe your Havana…

Havana is a cocktail of fruits – its music tastes like mango; its streets smell like guava; its people have the texture of pineapples; the sunsets resemble the color palette of papaya.

How did growing up in Cuba shape your music?

Not having much forces you to cultivate and maximize your creativity.

On the struggles, the duo endured in Havana

Growing up with limited internet was a massive obstacle for us, as we had little to no access to the global music scene and we weren’t able to stay in touch with international news stories. However, it also allowed us to create our own lane without being concerned about sounding too much like someone else.

On the importance of making music that resonates with Cubans

Very important. When we play in our native island, we know we’re making our people happy when they move to our music with zero inhibitions. We see the crowd as a thermometer that indicates whether we’re nailing our track selection or not.

If you could spend a day with any Cuban artist (dead or alive), who would it be. And why?

Benny More without a doubt. He was deemed the “Bárbaro del Ritmo” – the Wizard of Rhythm – and rightfully so, he was one of a kind. La Lupe was also a major influential figure in our career. Both have passed, but they remain alive and well in our hearts and in our music.

By introducing fresh, new sounds and rhythms to house, PAUZA is gearing up for world domination. Later this year, they will be joining Beck, Vampire Weekend, The Offspring, The Kooks, and many more in Monterrey’s Tecate Live Out taking place October 19th, 2019.
