Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Chaim is an Israeli musician, whose organic and forward-thinking music rouses listeners from around the globe. Known for gracing the DJ booths of some of the world’s most notable venues, his productions have found homes on some of the industry’s most respected labels, including his own label Blue Shadow, BPitch Control, Flying Circus, Rebirth, Rumors, Supplement Facts, Visionquest, Disco Halal, Saved, Cocoon, and many more. Fresh off the back of recent remixes on Gardens of Babylon, BMG and Eleatics Records, we catch up with the burgeoning talent to find out more…

Hello Chaim! Welcome to We Own The Nite NYC and thanks for taking time out of your schedule to talk to us. How are you?

I’m good, thanks for having me!

How would you best describe your sound for those that may not be familiar?

My sound ranges from eclectic disco to indie African techno with a splash of oregano oil.

Who or what were your biggest musical inspirations growing up?

My father used to listen to stuff like Paul Anka, The Shadows and The Beatles. My brothers were listening to all the new wave music bands like Joy Division, Soft Cell, and Depeche Mode and my mom used to listen to Moroccan Andalusian music.

Despite everything that’s going on right now, how has 2020 been for you so far? Can you tell us about some projects you’ve been working on or involved with?

2020 actually started great with a massive amount of shows including a month touring the US. All the shows were amazing, definitely one of my best US tours. Since Covid, I’ve been using this time working in the studio, spending time with my family, reconnecting with my self with less pressure.
I recently finished a remix for a legendary local guitar player called David Broza who signed an instrumental album at BMG. The remix is for a song call ‘Tears for Barcelona’ — a very slow and emotional song which is out today.

You’ve also got two amazing remixes recently released on Gardens of Babylon and Eleatics Records. Can you talk to us about these?

Well they’re both very different from eachother and this actually more or less defines who I am as an artist. I’m very eclectic because I tend to get bored doing the same thing, or sticking to the same style. Everything I do is very spontaneous without any planning ahead. I’m pretty happy with the results and it says a lot about  the freedom i feel as a producer. At least that’s what I think  🙂

What is the electronic music scene like in your hometown of Tel Aviv?

Well we’re all in the same boat right now, waiting for everything  to happen again. It’s pretty frustrating for all of us like the rest of the world.

Any local producers that we should be keeping our eyes on?

Kino Todo and Amit Agami — both of them I signed on my new label  ‘Blue Shadow’. Kino Todo’s first release ‘Gidafi Na’ was a big hit and Amit Agami has a brand new release coming on the label in the next months, which we’re excited about.

You’re clearly very accomplished both in the studio and behind the decks. Do you prefer one or the other?

Basically I love both but if I had to choose I always tend to the production side. I love creating new music cause the way I do it is sort of a party anyways 🙂

What are 5 records that haven’t left your box recently?

1. Club Tularosa – HVC1

2. Sandhog – Endless Dimension (Original Mix)

3. Whitesquare – Acid Flashes

4. She Teiks – She Teiks – Traff EP

5. Kaoma – Lambada

What are you most looking forward to this year? Any cool projects you can tell us about?

I think we are all waiting for events to start again… but on the new music side I’m cooking up some new EPs that are very different tho my music from my past. I’m collaborating a lot with local artist and it’s great
I’m also exited about the upcoming releases on my label and a new remix I’m working on with my label partner Jenia Tarsol

Any final words for our We Own The Nite readers?
