The second Something Wicked has come and gone, but the memories will last a lifetime. Disco Donnie Presents and Night Culture successfully quenched the thirsts of EDM fans. The Halloween based festival was held at the Sam Houston Race Park on October 26th. With three stages, each a different genre of EDM guaranteeing that each fans needs was met. More than half the crowd dressed up in the spirit of Halloween. The atmosphere was buzzing. Energized fans hopped from stage to stage. Raging and dancing the day/night away. From time to time, revelers paused to take photographs and stopped to admire the time and effort put into each costumes. Great vibes all around.
The main stage, Shadow Lands, was massive with an all-star lineup of DJ’s. The likes of Deorro, Tommy Trash, Wolfgang Gartner, Tiesto and many more, all delivered monster sets that had the crowd electric with excitement. The next stage over, the Bass Crypt, was by far my favorite. This stage was smaller and had a more intimate feel to it, allowing the crowd a sense of connection with each other and the DJ’s. A few of my favorite sets were delivered by HeRobust, a DJ I’ve never heard of before and was blown away by his set. Adventure Club, the Canadian duo that I was especially looking forward to seeing and Crizzly did not disappoint—they delivered, as expected. Other notables that played this stage were Luminox, Figure and Cookie Monsta.
Moving on to the trance stage which was aptly named Mystic Meadows had bunch of lasers shooting out of an enormous pyramid. My time at the trance stage was limited, but the energy was undeniably great. Once the sunset, the stage was bursting with magic as the sounds of Aly & Fila, Cosmic Gate and ATB filled the air.
Overall the festival was great. The layout was ideal with bathrooms spread out; vendors placed perfectly and even a centrally located free water filling station, something all festival goers appreciated. The 30 DJs actively participated in making the event a memorable one. Alcohol was a little pricey with beers at $7 and mixed drinks at $10, but expected at an event of this nature. The work and planning Disco Donnie and Night Culture put into this event was obvious and I’m excited to see what treats they have in store for next year.
