BIG WEEK NYC has finally come to a somber end but there couldn’t have been a better way to bang out the last days of 2014 and start a new year in appreciation of electronic dance music with Cash Cash, Carnage, DVBBS, Markus Schulz, Bingo Players, Kaskade, Showtek, Martin Garrix, Claude Vonstroke, Borgore, Diplo and Skrillex all in New York City this week.

I spent my big week at Pier 94 with Armin van Buuren, Mark Sixma, Jochen Miller and Andrew Rayel. The next day I went down to Pacha for Martin Garrix’s  pre- New Year’s Eve Party with Julian Jordan, Jay Hardway, Sikduo, Dysomnia, and special unexpected guest Ansolo! My final night of the year was spent at Borgore’s New Year’s Eve Slumber party that went on from 9pm December 31 to January 1 at 11am!!

Night one at Pier 94 was a special experience for me because I’ve never heard trance in person before and the way it affected me and the people around me was definitely something different. Trance is an energetic genre, not one that makes you want to jump, but one that lets you feel the energy of the others around you and connect in a true state of trance. To add to the vibe, Pier 94 had a full laser light and visuals and plenty of reflective colored confetti for a treat to the senses.

Before Armin van Buuren, Mark Sixma started off the night bringing great vibes with his pumpy sound including my favorite, “Rise Up”:

Next up was Jochen Miller who killed it until the crowd began shouting for Armin in mid set. Then it was over and Armin finally came out and his adoring fans showed much welcome with happy belated birthday signs and A State of Trance t-shirts and flags. He showed his appreciation by giving back an awesome show filled with years of great songs and experience in the show business.

He played a variety of hit songs including the crowd favorite “Ping Pong”:

Armin ended his set with none other than “This is What it Feels Like,” his chart topping song with Trevor Guthrie that had the crowd begging him not to stop there.

But Andrew Rayel came out to close the night with mixes from all the greatest, showing special inspiration through Hardwell.

The night was fully enjoyed, but it wasn’t all BIG WEEK had in store for me. Stay tuned for my reviews at Pacha for Martin Garrix and Borgore’s New Year’s Eve shows!!
