Pete Tong announced today that he will be bringing his legendary BBC Radio One’s Essential Mix to NYC for the first time on September 23rd. This will be his third Essential Mix of the year broadcasted from the US, following live mixes from in LA in January and Miami in March. The legendary British DJ will be joined by in NYC Seth Troxler, the undisputed champion of a new generation of Detroit-techno talent.

The venue for the NYC Essential Mix will be Williamsburg-based nightclub Output, one of the premier nightclubs in the states and in fact one of Troxler’s favorite venues in the US. “If you want underground music, there is nowhere better in America” said the charismatic and always entertaining Troxler. Hosting the event at Output is a signifier of the growing global influence that Brooklyn is having on dance music.

2016 saw Pete Tong and BBC Radio One make a concerted effort to report back from the front lines of American dance music culture by hosting a series of Essential Mix events. In January Tong kicked off the year with LA’s first Essential Mix live with Richie Hawtin, and a special broadcast that featured appearances from Eric Prydz, Claude VonStroke, MK, Eats Everything and more.

Switching coasts for the Fall, the Big Apple was an essential destination. New York City has always been a global focal point for club culture; from the glamour and glitz of Studio 64, the emergence of hip-hop in the boroughs, through to Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage, and more contemporary club moments such as Digweed + Sasha’s Twilo residency and finally the current resurgence of underground club and warehouse culture in Brooklyn.

Pete Tong said, “I’ve been coming to NYC for almost 30 years, from my days A+Ring at London Records, when I was lucky enough to visit The Garage and Mancuso’s Loft, to playing some incredible sets in my DJ career. This city has always been at the heart of global club culture and I’m delighted to be bringing the Essential Mix here to celebrate that with one of America’s finest underground DJs, Seth Troxler.

Tong has also included the iconic NYC house DJ David Ferrer to play, as well as emerging local talents such as Eli Escobar and Nasha Baker to further showcase NYC’s electronic music lineage.  Further information on this event will be released through Radio 1 in the coming weeks.
