New Year’s Eve weekend was as cold as always in Brooklyn, NY this year. So waiting out in the cold to get through security after walking quite a distance from the train station was not ideal. But when we finally got into Depot 52 we tried to forget about the tortures of going out during the winter. The place had minimal lighting and a lot of periodic strobes from the ceiling gave off awesome old warehouse party vibes. Another thing that I liked about this venue which some people may not is that there was only heating in certain spots. So, it wasn’t hot and we didn’t need to spend $5 to check in our jackets. The GA bathrooms were outside anyways so it really sucked if you had to run out into 10 degree weather to relieve yourself. But hey, what can you expect? It’s a warehouse.

Now about the music:
On New Year’s Eve Eve Tensnake played a great set before Testpilot himself intervened to set up his own tech as Tensnake finished out his set. It was funny because perhaps after the Movement Detroit incident perhaps he trusts no one to set up his tech anymore. Dennis Ferrer was canceled but Testpilot treated us with an extremely energetic set followed by a Deadmau5 set. It was 3 hours of heaven to fans of Joel. And he quite enjoyed himself drinking an entire six pack and then some, playing Avici’s “Levels,” claiming something along the lines of “it never gets old.”
On New Year’s Eve we enjoyed a CID set, feeding our celebratory attitudes until we rung in the new year with Michael Calfan in an awesome house style count down.

Immediately following, David Guetta appeared with a diverse set of house, techno, hip hop and any genre as long as it sounded good in a really fun mix to start the new year. He claimed it had been 10 years since his last warehouse appearance, and he really made it a special return.

After Guetta, there was no one better to play than Makj. He kept the energy so high and played a variety of styles, especially old school hip hop (which I particularly loved). He played the perfect set that kept us entertained and interested no matter how tired we were from the long day of partying. We danced until the end just as anyone should spend their first few hours of the new year.
