As the glitter settles from the largest pride celebration the city has ever seen, LadyLand Festival proved to live up to expectations amongst the heavy hitters of events during World Pride Weekend.

The dizzying amount of events throughout the city left no niche untouched. Circuit celebrations, protests, marches and concerts all took swings at winning over the attendees of World Pride 2019.

At the Brooklyn Mirage, Ladyfag’s LadyLand came together for 2 nights of celebration of queer culture and talent. With a lineup as eclectic as it’s attendees, LadyLand delivered a welcoming environment with quality acts for all to see. Frosé flowed, attendees brought their best outfits and crop tops this side of the East River. It was a celebration indeed.

From a wall of multicolored sex toys, to towering inflatable green hands on stage and a slew of merchandise highlighting the event, Ladyland proved to be very well-thought-out.

On Friday the 28th, the event kicked off with a slew of activities, including tattoos for those brave enough to embed World Pride into their being for the rest of time. Shout out to organizers who had donations go towards the Ali Forney Center.

On stage, revelers found themselves treated to the international and controversial Pussy Riot, which was, suffice it to say, very well-received. Headlining the night was Honey Dijon. For a space as large as the Mirage, Honey Dijon proved to have more than enough sauce to go around.

Drag queens and kings also donned the stage, along with queer music acts on both the main stage and in Kings Hall. Among the acts and visitors of the evenjng, Rina Sawayama gave a noteworthy performance and Rupaul’s Drag Race Alum Milk wowed crowds

Ladyland Festival’s kick off night was indeed a success.

Day 2 of the festival/extravaganza was much the same. The fantastically stressed Allie X took to the main stage in heels that made this event gore jealous. Rupaul’s Drag Race winner Violet Chaco made jaws drop, as per usual. (Personally, it seems like not taking a burlesque class between now and pride next year would be a mistake on my part). Christeene made for a wild display. Coi Leary and Mykki Blanco also took the stage for performances that wowed the crowd. Brazilian powerhouse Pabllo Vittar took the place of indie rock band the Gossip, but the crowd did not seem bothered. Pabloo Vittar was able to FILL the walls of the Mirage with her voice and win the hearts of those on the dance floor.

All in all, Ladyfag proved that Ladyland was worthy of an expansion to 2 days for Word Pride 2019. Congrats to NYC’s nightlife heavy hitter Ladyfag and all the performers who made the walls of Mirage filled with love, acceptance and enough pleather to kill. Self expression is alive and well within Brooklyn, and we look forward to seeing what 2020 has in store.
