A driven, creative music lover born and bred in Salerno in the South of Italy, Nick Reverse fell in love with music from a very early age. Starting his career by playing private parties with friends in Italy, Nick quickly picked up residencies at local clubs where he went from honing in on his DJ skills to taking his first steps into productions at age 21.

A heavy dose of passion and strong dedication led to him getting booked at a number of underground parties across Europe and in 2014 he made the move to Australia where he began playing at some of Melbourne’s finest underground venues. Now based in Sydney where he co-founded the extremely successful multi-faceted WeLove brand, Nick is looking to take things to the next level in 2022. Fresh off the back of his latest release ‘Yeah!’ on WeLove, we sat down with Nick to find out more…

Hi Nick and a very warm welcome to We Own The Nite. How are you today?

I’m very good thank you, it’s such a pleasure for me to be interviewed by We Own The Nite!

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your artist project, and your label WeLove Recordings.

I have been a music lover since a very young age. Started to DJ when I was 16 and from the age of 21 I took this seriously releasing my first EP (now I am 33, nearly 34 in July, can’t believe it!)
I moved to Australia in 2014, originally in Melbourne. I started to play some gigs then I moved to Sydney in 2015 and founded WeLove weekly events in Sydney and Gold Coast. WeLove is now also an agency, clothing brand, DJ School and record label. We have been releasing some great artists from all around the globe such as Javi Bora, Alvaro AM, Barbuto and many more. WeLove is my life and involves many people around Australia.

What’s your creative vision for WeLove, and how would you describe the style of the label’s output?

My vision for WeLove is to create an institution in Australia to be able to link with the rest of the world, our style is mostly Tech House and Techno, with a hint of Minimal and more melodic sounds.

What was the motivation behind setting it up?

I’ve dedicated my whole life to music. I think I was born for it and WeLove is my devotion and my most successful brand I ever created. This project gave me the opportunity to perform in many countries and more importantly I had some great feelings to see all those people having such a good time at our events. The recognition has no price and my heart is full of joy for this.

You have an amazing new record out called ‘Yeah!’ Can you tell us about the release?

Yes! I am very happy with this production to be honest. On the side I teach DJ and production lessons. I started this project with Neverland (Sydney duo and such an important part of WeLove right now), doing some classes on Ableton, then we realised this track had potential so we finished and I decided to release it on our last compilation for WeLove Recordings. I have been playing “Yeah!” in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast in Australia and always had an amazing reaction from the crowd, which makes me so happy! Also because I gave motivation to other artists to start producing tracks, being able to express your own personality through music and play your own work is one of the best feelings in the world!

Do you get particularly involved in the creative direction when it comes to artwork and content creation for the label?

Yes absolutely, at WeLove I am behind every choice artistic and creative even though I am very glad and lucky to be surrounded by such a great team.

Please can you talk to us about the music scene where you grew up.

I grew up in Salerno, in the South of Italy. My first years of DJing I was playing techno, sometimes quite hard too. But after moved to Australia I changed my sounds to more groovy and smooth vibe, since the scene was different here I had to adapt myself. To be honest I discovered a new chapter which made me fall in love for Tech House, now it’s been nearly 8 years that I play this style, occasionally I have been invited to play in some events where I played much harder set, for example when i did my first Indian tour or in Serbia, rarely also in some events in Australia.

Any early raving memories or stories you can share with us?

When I was young at the age of 18-20 years old I was attending every Sunday at Old River Park in Caserta (Italy). Here is where I met techno legends such as Joseph Capriati, Lugii Madonna, Markantonio, Rino Cerrone and many more. They made me fall in love with techno music. With such a big pleasure after many years I was glad to be able to host them at WeLove and I played before Joseph on several occasions in other events, Pure with Carl Cox and at Chinese Laundry (Sydney).

Back to WeLove, are there any other artists you’re releasing that we should be keeping our eyes on?

In our agency we have some serious local talents and it’s my commitment to promote them and help those guys to get to know people. I am very very happy that my friend Barbuto moved to Australia recently so we can work together on this beautiful project, after many years of friendship and collaborations.

What else do you have coming up between now and the end of the year? Any exciting solo projects or touring you can talk to us about?

At WeLove we are planning big things for 2022. We will be hosting some great international artists, we have Nakadia, Luigi Madonna, Nusha and more artists coming up in the next few months, then planning something big for our 7th birthday in July. I am also very much looking forward to being back to Europe for a tour this summer after 3 years in “isolation” in Australia. And I will also come back to India for another tour. Then in November we are going to have our second festival “WeLove Safari”, the first edition was just amazing and we are so looking forward to the next one, bigger and better!!!

Thanks for your time Nick!
