ARTBAT kicked off their New York debut with music from Afterlife’s most recent VA Compilation, and the duo’s own new releases via Watergate Records.

After months of appearances around the globe, ARTBAT landed in the Big Apple for their first New York show. The Ukrainian duo has been made huge strides this year, thanks a growing fan base, regular appearances on Watergate, Afterlife, DIYNAMIC and RUKUS.

One boat, diverse fanbase.

A smorgasbord of English-speaking and multilingual music hounds from as far as Hawaii, to the big D showed up to witness the duo’s first NYC show. Everyone under the sun was represented at their debut performance. Though, the Afterlife fans definitely outnumbered us, 3 to 1.

On deck

I don’t think we could have picked a more opportune day for a boat party around the Hudson. The warmth of the sun was tempered by a cool breeze.  As we set sail from Pier 83, Sleepy & Boo wasted no time getting the crowd warmed up for ARTBAT. Once on deck, Artur and Batish presented their signature style of futuristic house and techno — as we watched the sunset, drink in a hand, indulging in the spectrum of fiery oranges and reds, as the music resonated below.

High Expectations, intimate experience

After watching ARTBAT’s recent performances at Awakenings Festival, Cercle Brazil, and Watergate Berlin sets – their NYC debut was a mixture of highs and lows. Unlike their European performance, the NYC crowd was split between Afterlife fanatics and the jet setting connoisseurs. Though it was heaven for die-hard Afterlife fans, some felt the duo played too much on the conservative side and was hoping for the duo to push the envelope a little. Though the safe bubble didn’t burst, everyone was pleased knowing this was a one-of-a-kind experience. This gorgeous summer night was always going to belong to all of us who showed up to witness ARTBAT’s first NYC show.

Good Vibes

Overall, ARTBAT’s NYC debut delivered, with precise transitions in between tracks, the duo masterfully read the crowd. Enthralling fanatics on the main dance floor, and providing the necessary vibes for those who remained on the top deck. With a matchless backdrop like the New York Skyline, outstanding weather, primo acts, first-rate production, and a diverse crowd this was certainly a night to remember. We are already looking forward for ARTBAT’s next NYC show.

They played with space and time extremely well by manipulating the frequencies in their own way and not just allowing tracks to run. Kept things interesting for the audiophiles on the boat. ~ Anthony Rhoades

As we disembarked, it felt bittersweet knowing that the next time ARTBAT returns to New York — it won’t ever be as intimate as this.
