Bon Iver Collaborator Gordi Features On Ambient Electronic Artist Willaris. K’s New Single – ‘INDIFFERENT

Australian electronic and ambient producer Willaris. K has released his first-ever track to incorporate vocals, featuring the formidable fellow Australian talent Gordi. Taking a transformative sonic turn with the emotive ballad ‘INDIFFERENT’, Willaris crafts a layer of moody piano scales and melodic basslines that complement the Bon Iver and Troye Sivan collaborator’s brooding vocals.

The track was originally conceived at Willaris’ home in NSW, then fine-tuned on Gordi’s farm in rural Australia, and finally perfected alongside renowned Sigur Ros collaborator and film composer Alex Somers at Shangri La Studios in Malibu, inside Bob Dylan’s iconic old tour bus.

“I wrote the instrumental in 2017 as an experiment to see where I could take the music sonically. I wanted to explore it for film but also explore the more vulnerable side of Willaris. K. I melted when Sophie started singing the first line when we were recording.” Willaris. K

“Jack and I talked about collaborating when we were lying on the floor of the living room in my apartment in 2017 listening to music at 5 AM. The next day he sent me this song titled “Piano Man.” It had the beautiful piano part you hear in the song and it made me so sad. So, I wrote a sad story to go with it about feeling nothing and called it “INDIFFERENT.” Gordi

In line with Willaris’ recent releases, the track is accompanied by a stunning visualizer from the multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer, Chris Kore. Reflective of her interests in exploring the ever-changing mediated reality and its influence on human perception, ‘INDIFFERENT’ is a gorgeous landscape of 3D scanned dancers moving between planes of light and geometric patterns.

Willaris. K’s debut release on Astralwerks, ‘5 O’CLOCK / PAST LIGHT’, arrived as an A and B-side record, showcasing his versatility as a rising ambient electronic tastemaker and was met with support from Mixmag, DJ Mag, and London In Stereo. Earlier this month he commissioned TSHA, Ghost Culture and Juno Mamba, artists who are also known for their textural sound, to reimagine ‘5 O’Clock’ in a collection of atmospheric remixes.

In light of the recent bushfires in Australia, the remix package coincided with his announcement of a benefit show in Melbourne. The fundraiser will be held at Seaworks in Melbourne on Sunday 9th February, with Willaris waiving performance fees and donating all merch proceeds to the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities. Showing the generosity of the Australian community, tickets sold out in under 20 minutes.

Australian singer, songwriter and producer Gordi has worked with an impressive list of creators including musical collaborations with Troye Sivan, Bon Iver, Julien Baker and The Tallest Man On Earth, as well as tours with Sam Smith, Fleet Foxes, Of Monsters and Men, and The National. Her debut album ‘Reservoir’ was nominated for triple j’s ‘Album Of The Year’ in 2017, and she performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk series in 2018. Gordi is a force to be reckoned with not only because of her versatility as an artist but also because she is now a qualified doctor, having just completed her medical studies over the course of six years between touring internationally and recording. Having just announced US and Mexico tour dates, new music from Gordi is expected this year, and she recently released a new track ‘The Cost’, with proceeds benefiting Australian Bushfire relief efforts. Being from a farm in regional Australia, issues connected to drought, bushfire and climate change are close to her heart.
