Berlin Nightlife – Watergate Week 07

Here’s what’s cooking this week at Watergate – February 13th thru February 16th, 2019

Watergate Berlin – Wednesday, 13th

A mid-week session with deep house master Delano Smith

When it comes to the founding fathers of House and Techno, big names quickly pop into their heads: Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Juan Atkins…Delano Smith, on the other hand, is the type that is currently very much inspiring the offspring. Born in Chicago, grew up in Detroit, and highly esteemed in this country with a consistent link to Berlin. Delano Smith is one of those artists of the time when the boundaries around house and techno were not very tight – and they have not lost their importance after all these years.

Illegal raves on a field in nowhere. Small cars danced to scrap. Confused pensioners. Muffige Punkerkeller. The first large-capacity clubs. Hardly any act fired the mood of the young, German techno scene in the early nineties as much as The Third Room. In the beginning, Andreas Krüger – who is supported live by Ralf Uhrlandt – used Acid House, Trance and experimental sound reminiscent of British acts like Orbital. Later, her music became increasingly technoid. For the 25th anniversary, Der Dritte Raum has just reissued a whole range of old classics such as “Hale Bop” and “Trommelmaschine” and remixed by producers such as Maceo Plex, Martin Landsky and Guido Schneider. Friday, Feb. 15th they play live on the Waterfloor! Their appearance will be framed by Cocoon’s Maurizio Schmitz and Extrawelt on the Main floor, one of the world’s best live acts, which in terms of energy and spirit today fits perfectly into the film. Before and after, Kevin de Vries and Vonda7 play here.

Watergate Berlin – Saturday, 16th
