Paul van Dyk Embarks on First US Tour since Near-Fatal Accident
Legendary trance DJ & producer Paul van Dyk will be in NYC this weekend for a show at The Brooklyn Hangar, in conjunction with BKWRHS. This show will mark his second US show since recovering from the massive injuries he sustained as a result of falling through a faulty stage set up at a festival in Holland earlier this year. Fortunately, Paul has returned to form both physically and musically
On his first dates returning to the road, Paul is touring around the U.S, playing integral markets such as NYC and Miami, as well as dates in the American Midwest – Cincinnati and Columbus. The run of dates all leads up to a pivotal performance, out on the ocean-tinged plains of Southern California – for artist and electronic music fans alike – the headlining slot at Insomniac highly anticipated and sold out Dreamstate Festival.
Paul van Dyk is credited with bringing electronic music to the forefront in the late 90s and early aughts, and he has been bringing his 138-BPM euphoria to the states for nearly the entirety of his three-decades-long career, refusing to turn his back on the genre as others have. Instead, he doubled down and is now seeing the work he put in repaid as trance has been undergoing a worldwide resurgence in the last two years. Spearheading this movement in the US is Dreamstate, the all-trance festival that van Dyk headlined in its sold out fall 2015 debut, and on its namesake stage at EDC this past June.
Paul van Dyk is regarded not just as a forefather of trance, but as an overall icon of electronic music culture. As a DJ, he is one of the longest-serving Ibiza residents in clubbing history, and he has been voted World’s Best DJ twice. On the production side, his 1994 track “For An Angel” is deemed one of the best dance music tracks of all time, and he earned a Grammy nomination for his 2003 album Reflections.
This year he has been collaborating with his VANDIT Records proteges Chris Bekker and Alex M.O.R.P.H., his collab ‘We Are’ is Beatport’s trance #1 for almost 3 weeks. Even as dance music continues to proliferate into the mainstream, Paul van Dyk remains wholeheartedly devoted to the art of pure trance.
