Red Bull Music Festival New York kicks off on May 3 and, today, the month-long event series has added two new events–an evening with music director Hype Williams on May 10, as part of the Red Bull Music Director’s Series, discussing the iconic visuals that he’s created for some of the biggest tracks of the last three decades; and an after-party for Red Bull Radio Live: Peak Time with Vivian Host.

RED BULL MUSIC FESTIVAL NEW YORK 2018

The afterparty, Peak Time Elsewhere, features a steady diet of left-of-center techno, electro, breakbeat rave and other provocative club music with Detroit’s driving force DJ Stingray, Berlin-based Errorsmith performing live in the U.S. for the first time in 15 years, and more. Tickets for both events, on now via nyc.redbullmusicfestival.com.

“Hype” Williams first made his name as a music video director in the ’90s, with a flamboyant and daring style perfectly in sync with hip-hop in its commercial ascendancy. His landmark visuals for Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Puffy, Mase, and Tupac indelibly pushed rap iconography to new levels of maximalism, while collaborations with the Notorious B.I.G., Craig Mack, Wu-Tang Clan, DMX and others remain testaments to the poetry of simplicity. Today, Williams endures as a creative benchmark and go-to for artists with a vision – be they Beyonce, Kanye West or Jack White. For this conversation, the Queens native will discuss the making of selected videos chosen from the hundreds he has helmed since 1991. It’s a rare chance to hear how the kid who wanted to be the “Basquiat of the streets” applied his Technicolor vision to the biggest names in rap and pop, defining the era’s sounds for the screen. The conversation will be moderated by acclaimed hip-hop journalist and ego trip co-conspirator Jeff “Chairman” Mao.

Peak Time is the daily new music show on Red Bull Radio with Vivian Host and, on May 20, Red Bull Music Festival New York will bring a live installment of the show to fans featuring conversations with DJ Stingray, Errorsmith & Volvox at Rose Gold. The just-announced afterparty down the street at Elsewhere will feature Peak Time guests Errorsmith and DJ Stingray, plus sets from NYC-based DJ and nightlife disruptor Juliana Huxtable, NAAFI-affiliated producer Debit and Peak Time ‘s Host, who reflects on warehouse raves and the hardcore continuum under her Star Eyes alias.

The venue for Careful on the Pavement was also just announced. Taking place May 18 at The Cutting Room, the event features a group of young and ruthless rappers inspired by horror flicks and disrupting hip-hop including Bali Baby, Asian Doll, Rico Nasty, Lil Wop, Chicken, HANZ, DJ Kenn, Chynna, and Omar Doom as Straight Razor. Tickets are on sale now.

Taking place throughout May, the widely praised annual festival has become a New York City institution featuring performances by today’s most forward-looking musicians; tributes to legendary artists, scenes, and sounds; and conversations with impactful, innovative musicians. The shows will unfold throughout the boroughs at some of NYC’s most unique settings, from iconic institutions to uncharted spaces completely re-configured for the occasion. The 2018 installment will see events featuring Harry Belafonte, Robyn, Oneohtrix Point Never, Fever Ray; celebrations of Betty Davis, RAMMΣLLZΣΣ, and the past and future of Reggaeton; and much more.

In addition to the events, Red Bull Music Festival New York will tell original stories through editorial content on RedBullMusic.com. Red Bull Radio (www.redbullradio.com) will also feature a month of NYC-focused programming, including event live streams, special broadcasts from Red Bull Arts New York, and more.
