Splice and Movement Partner to Release Concept Sample Pack Featuring 20+ Artists from Movement 2018 Lineup

Splice and Movement release the Movement Collective Pack, a concept sample pack featuring samples contributed by over 20 artists from the Movement 2018 lineup. At the heart of the pack are sounds captured from significant locations across Detroit. Armed with field recorders, Detroit legends Shigeto and Wajeed wandered the city capturing the sounds of interesting and significant locations — from the whir of record pressing machines at Detroit’s Archer to the clicks of a printing press at Waajeed’s studio. Musicians from Movement’s 2018 lineup were then invited to High Bias studios to deconstruct, resample, and transform the raw field recordings into samples and loops for the pack, which is available exclusively on Splice Sounds.

Artists who contributed to the pack include: Andrés, Mark Flash, Ectomorph, Blake Baxter, Shady P, Delano Smith, Black Noi$e, Kweku Saunderson, Antenes, Marco Shuttle, MGUN, Chuck Daniels, Milan Ariel, Gene Farris, The Saunderson Brothers, Marshall Applewhite, Mija, John Dixon & Chris Koltay

Proceeds from the pack will be donated to Seraphine Collective and Spin, Inc, two organizations fostering a diverse and inclusive music scene in Detroit.

Accompanying the release is a cinematic mini-doc that offers an intimate glimpse into the creation of the sample pack, the stories of the artists who collaborated to create it, and the historic city that inspires them. It weaves scenes of Detroit legends Shigeto and Waajeed as they roam iconic locations in Motor City with scenes of artists passing through High Bias studio to transform and create with the field recordings.

The sample pack and video release come as the culmination of The Sound: Detroit, a weeklong multimedia celebration of the sounds coming out of Detroit today. The Sound is a recurring series that explores the creative process of today’s innovative artists, from studio discoveries to the stories behind genre-defining sounds. The Sound: Detroit campaign features sample packs from the likes of Claude VonStroke, as well as online activations and contests for music producers.  Head to splice.com for more information.
