Ahead of their No Escape Out Of Time project release on Friday, RITUAL have hooked up with Atlanta fast riser 6LACK for a rework of their single, “Drown The Lovers.” Chosen today as Zane Lowe’s World Record, the union came about when RITUAL posted a cover of 6LACK‘s “Loyal” online, and the artists have been in touch ever since. “Drown The Lovers” is available for purchase or streaming HERE via Astralwerks. Speaking on the release, RITUAL state:

“We became massive fans of 6LACK late last year. We ended up obsessed with a track called “Loyal” that he put out before the album. As soon as I heard it, I had the idea to ask Mononoke to sing the chorus and for us to try and write our own version of the song around that. We were so happy with what we came up with, we threw it up online immediately.

All of the sudden, a friend sent me a video of 6LACK listening to it on his Instagram feed! We ended up in touch with him and his producer and that led to us working on this new version of ‘Drown The Lovers’. It’s almost a surreal moment when one of your favorite artists sends you over a verse like this – the way he’s gone so deep into the concept and written such a powerful verse, it’s something really special. From the opening line ‘As I sit and paint these pictures with my words,’ we were blown away.”

Adding his own vibe to the original, 6LACK places a new slant on the single saying, “I was doing my SoundCloud surfing for new songs to fall in love with and I stumbled on a rework of one of my own songs “Loyal” by RITUAL, and instantly became a fan. They made it their own and from there I just dove into everything of theirs I could find. I think I reached out on social media, and by the time “Drown the Lovers” was presented to me, I already knew all the lyrics and was honored to be a part of it. It’s written perfectly, and was reflective of a lot of my relationships so the words just kind of came to me. Sometimes you find yourself in situations where people need a little help up before they can love the right way, the trick is figuring out if it’s your place, or if it’s something they have to tackle on their own.”

Preorder RITUAL‘s No Escape Out Of Time HERE via Astralwerks. Fans who preorder the record will instantly receive “Real Feels ft. Denzel Curry,” “Wouldn’t Be Love,” “Better By Now” and “Drown The Lovers ft. 6lack.”

Ever since hearing the skittering bass and whispered, creeping melodies of RITUAL‘s debut EP The Fall in late 2014, listeners have been hooked. The mysterious London based group captured the imaginations of publications like Billboard, The FADER, an The Line of Best Fit without ever even revealing their names or faces RITUAL. Through writing songs for other artists as a trio – their hits include Dua Lipa’s “Hotter Than Hell” -Adam Gross, Tommy Baxter and Gerard O’Connell discovered a unique chemistry, further decorated by the beautiful tones of Mononoke.
