DIM MAK’s reigning meme king Ookay teams up with influential jungle music pioneers Ragga Twins to deliver “The Boot.”
In a flawless execution of genre melding, the track has energetic
reggae toasting on top of reverberating synths, ragga horn patterns, and
a savage drop.
Ookay has become a household name in dance music in just a few short years, boasting early co-signs from some of the industries most well respected influencers – Diplo, Steve Aoki, A-Trak, Borgore and Showtek, among others. In 2013, Vibe named the young producer a Top Trap/Moombahton Artist To Watch, which was the ammunition that fired up his debut Ghost EP on DIM MAK. The opus was met with acclaim, YourEDM
hailing it as “An EP filled with such versatility, that it gives a big
middle finger to the idea of genre and shows us that this kid is no kid
at all.” The standout single “Egg Drop Soup” showcased the producer’s undeniable talent and became an instant sensation, surpassing half a million soundcloud plays. Following Ghost and a breakthrough EDC Orlando performance, Ookay was featured on UKF’s Gamechangers Series among the company of Dirty South, Kill The Noise, Tiga and Porter Robinson.
Ookay’s exceptional production has also made him an in-demand remixer. His remixes of Steve Aoki’s “Boneless” and Avicii’s “You Make Me” (which he reworked alongside Diplo) took the Beatport Hip Hop Chart’s #3 and #1
spots, respectively, and established the young gun as one of the
industry’s most promising producers. Closing out 2014, he was
commissioned by The Chainsmokers to take on their explosive fan favorite track “Kanye,” and Borgore tapped him to remix “Last Year,”
which was one of the standout remixes from the “#NEWGOREORDER LUXE”
package. Outside of the studio, he’s celebrated for his onstage antics,
with appearances at EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, TomorrowWorld, and Red Rocks.
Recognized
as pioneers of jungle music, Ragga Twins have been as fundamental to
the genre’s resurgence as they were to its creation. Last year, the
legends were featured on Skrillex’s “Ragga Bomb,” which scored the #1 spot on
Beatport’s Dubstep and Drum & Bass charts. Teaming up with trap
music’s fresh prince for “The Boot,” Ragga Twins continue to propel both
jungle and bass music forward into a new era.
