Floating Points: This London legend’s been omnipresent recently. From an ADE panel with MOOG and performances, I sadly missed, to a star-studded NTS Takeover, he’s been pounding the pavement in support of his latest album, “Crush.” Absolute fangirl over here so allows me to give you more context on why you should add him to your playlists and calendar.

One of my absolute favourite songs of all time is “Nuits Sonores.” Floating Points’ layered, stunning production is breathtaking. As an apt YouTube comment points out, it bears a slight resemblance to Zion, by Fluke, the cave rave scene in “The Matrix 2” I consider a turning point in my interest to dance music. Floating Points‘ approach is much more experimental and nuanced. His brand of instrumental electronica doesn’t alienate, instead ushering in interest with syncopated rhythms and subtly crafted soundscapes.

For “Crush,” he’s given us plenty of social media content to gorge on. As It’s Nice That put it, “prepare to have your mind blown” by the behind-the-scenes look at how Hamill Industries’ team laboured night and day to create microcosms fitting for the song’s sonic journey. Their finished product, the gorgeous video for “Last Bloom”, is here.

While his upcoming Printworks show set to their stunning visuals has now sold out, keep an eye out for various appearances across Europe through winter, likely continuing his tradition for B2B sets with Daphni and Four Tet in between playing festivals in the warmer hemisphere. Easter week’s got him playing New York with a third show added — snatch up a ticket while you still can, your ears and soul will thank you.
