At the end of last year, Musical Freedom Radio
decided to take their mix series in a new direction, inviting artists
to showcase their own “musical freedom” in an hour-long set. The
initiative gives its guests the opportunity to step outside the box of
what they might typically play live. Earlier this year, Oliver Heldens
mixed a classic disco set, while Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano took
on techno and Tommy Trash mixed 60 minutes of electro.
This month, the label headed by Tiësto is featuring Don Diablo for their Musical Freedom Radio Episode 20.
Now airing exclusively on Musical Freedom’s Soundcloud page, Don’s
laid-back mix covers a wide range of genres with some unexpected song
choices, along with some recent music from the producer himself.
Don
Diablo says, “The foundation for this mix is 100% Musical Freedom. It’s
basically an old fashioned mixtape like I used to make for my best
friends when I was still in high school. A tape that contains music from
the past, that will always have a special place in my heart, as well as
music from the present that inspires me on many different levels right
now. If you are willing to invest the time then you will notice it’s not
just a collection of music, it’s a sonic adventure with a couple of
hidden messages. It’s probably best to play this mix when you are
working out, having sex or driving in your car in the middle of the
night.”
Currently
working on his rapidly expanding discography, Dutch DJ/producer Don
Diablo has scored multiple Top 3 hits on Beatport with records like
“AnyTime,” "Starlight,” and most recently “Chemicals” with Tiësto.
Becoming an in-demand remixer, his current portfolio includes names like
Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Rudimental and many others. Earlier this year, Don
launched his own record label and radio show Hexagon. Spanning over 35
countries, his firm radio support in tastemaker countries like the U.K.
and the U.S.A. has introduced the Dutchman to a wider audience.
Possessing a jam packed travel schedule, Don has played in nearly every
major club and festival around the world, as well as landing a residency
at Vegas superclub Hakkasan.
