Out now, Afterglow sees Barkley team up with talented Canadian singer-songwriter and vocalist Maggie Szabo for the pair’s impressive debut collaboration, as the newly-formed duo combine in perfect accord to deliver a true masterclass in euphoric, upbeat vocal house music. We caught up with Barkley to find out more…
Hey Barkley, thanks so much for taking the time to sit down with us there at We Own The Nite. How are you?
I am doing great, thank you very much. I am working on a lot of new songs currently!
Where in the world are you currently?
I‘m based in Frankfurt, Germany.
For those of our readers that may not know you, please can you give yourself a quick intro?
Hi, I‘m Barkley and I produce emotional clubby music 🙂
How did you first get into electronic music?
Already as a child I was an huge fan of trance music. Especially this incredibly emotional vibe was what excited me the most! I have always made music, played the piano and so on. So it was a logical step for me to produce such songs.
Massive congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Afterglow’. Can you tell us a bit about the track?
Maggie and I were in exchange after I did a remix for her song “back where we started” last year. I immediately thought I would like to release a single with her – which is now happening! 😉 Afterglow was created via the Internet. We’ve sent ideas back and forth. When she sent me the topline to my demo I was more than happy!
What was it like working with Maggie Szabo?
Maggie was great to work with. Her voice and writing skills are really great!
What’s the plan for you moving forwards as an artist? Any goals for the next few years?
I will keep developing my signature sound, always full speed ahead and hopefully, after Covid, play shows again!

What does the rest of 2021 look like for you in terms of new music and touring?
I’ll be spending a lot of time in my favorite place this year – the studio! There will be a lot of music created. I’m really looking forward to it! Trying to be more experimental when it comes to combining genres.
