NEW ORLEANS, LA – The two-day BUKU Music + Art Project is excited to announce additions to its already jam-packed collection of acclaimed performers, visual art installations and local food and craft vendors. BUKU’s unique and quirky vibe combines powerhouse music festival with intimate underground dance-party – all on the banks of the Mississippi River in the heart of New Orleans. Tickets to the 18+ event taking place at Mardi Gras World on March 21- 22, 2014 are currently on sale at www.thebukuproject.com/tickets.
The 2014 BUKU Music + Art Project has expanded its diverse lineup with the additions of: a first-time performance by iconic hip-hop act Nas performing Illmatic with DJ Premier in its entirety in celebration of the landmark album’s 20th Anniversary; noise pop duo Sleigh Bells; hip-hop sensation Chance the Rapper; explosive “trap” pioneer Carnage; instrumentalist and DJ-producer GRiZ; big-room dance producer Clockwork; composer and electronic instrumentalistDan Deacon; live disco duo and remix specialists Classixx (LIVE); Fool’s Gold Records DJ and producer Treasure Fingers; and the Los Angeles-based music and art enigma Young & Sick.
VIP-Only performances have been announced for the S.S. BUKU, a three-level New Orleans-style riverboat docked directly on the festival grounds featuring an open bar, main stage views from the boat’s deck, and additional amenities exclusive to VIP patrons. Performances include a special collaboration with The Gaslamp Killer and a brass ensemble from New Orleans’ own Preservation Hall; as well as DJ sets by Holy Ghost!, Miami Horror, and DJ Soul Sister; and interactive fan experiences like Big Freedia’s ‘Twerk Lesson’; the ‘BU-Katwalk’, an interactive fan fashion show featuring BUKU-inspired garments by local designers; and the ‘BU-Kookoff’ cooking challenge featuring fan-created dishes. More information on VIP amenities and pricing can be found at www.thebukuproject.com/tickets/v-i-p.
Two of last year’s interactive art elements will return in 2014: the Graffiti Showcase, a platform for legendary local graffiti artists to live-create and sell their artwork; and Fort BUKU, an innovative seating component comprised of net and shipping containers, which provides rooftop and hammock-style viewing of the main stage. The remaining installations will be revealed when festival gates open on March 21.
