Secret Solstice 2019: Meet Carla Rose

This year, we rolled out our ‘Women in Music’ Series, the series is a vehicle to empower future generations by highlighting remarkable women doing incredible things and making their mark in the global dance music scene. In short, they are blazing trails for women in music. Since Secret Solstice is mere days away, there’s no better time than now to start getting familiar with the women in this year’s lineup.

We are pleased to introduce, Carla Rose. Carla Rose might be considered a newcomer in the Icelandic underground dance scene, but her extensive experience includes co-owning an independent drum n bass/breakbeat record label in London.

Carla dishes on her exclusive mix for We Own The Nite, what we can expect at Secret Solstice, her set at the Ragnarök Afterparty, and who she’s dying to see on this year’s lineup. Read on.

On the inspiration behind this mix

My inspiration behind this mix is coming from heart and love of music. I love playing minimal house, tech house and deep house and especially vocal house. Love me a bit of vocal. 🙂

On what to expect

Thee most amazing, good vibes, gonna make you dance from beginning to end set. I am also playing at Ragnarok after party, Saturday 01:30 to 02.30 at Hard Rock Cafe Reykjavik. Playing at the festival, Sunday 15:30 to 16:30 on Fenrir stage.

On who she’s dying to see

I am excited to see and dance my ass off to: Kerri Chandler, Mr.G, Foreign Beggars, Black Eyed Peas, Robert Plant, Patti Smith, Sugar Hill Gang With Grandmaster and Melle Mel & Scorpio, Smash TV, Nitin to mention a few.

Carla Rose is one of the founders of “The Sync Road” DJ agency in Iceland. Originally from London, Rose started her career in her early twenties when she co-owned ‘Botchit & Scarper’, an independent drum n bass/break beat record label where she oversaw the PR, A&R, Marketing and Artist Liaison. After relocating to Iceland in 2005, Rose became more involved in the underground dance scene, becoming a regular DJ at prominent venues including Paloma and Vintage Box. In 2014, she joined the Secret Solstice team, one of Iceland’s biggest music festivals, performing on the Askur stage and at their first Secret Solstice presents Red Bull silent disco in 2018. Carla Rose also played at ADE Festival 2018.

Inspired by strong women in the music scene she started “The Sync Road” in Iceland to champion the hard work of other like minded individuals and to encourage her daughter and budding artists and DJs to discover their endless potential and success. Known for her infectious energy, dedication to the industry and her constant support for fellow artists and DJs, Rose is the Jamaican ancestry, London raised, adopted Icelandic DJ who is making her mark with her experimental approach to music and her cultivated style, connecting music lovers from different genres.

Catch Carla Rose at Fenrir Stage on Sunday, 23 June at 15:30 (3:30 PM) and the Ragnarök Afterparty on Saturday at 1:30 AM at the Hard Rock Cafe Reykjavík.
