During an interview in London for AVA Festival’s conference at Printworks, the Octave One duo revealed that they’d started slicing and dicing tracks whilst living in the same building as Juan Atkins and Marty Bonds. Carl Craig’s sister was also a tenant, so they considered him a neighbor too. Michigan’s motor city–AKA–Detroit produced a wealth of talent back in the day, but even more impressively, that roster of beat veterans continues to be behind some of the most forward-thinking music you can get your digits on.

Whilst Carl’s name might be stamped on the mix, Detroit itself takes centre stage. The spirit of the city shines through in the diversity of his selections, which range from modern classical crossovers to American garage rock via a healthy dose of soul-drenched house and techno.
