Currently on their first North American headline tour, global streaming stars Aquilo announce the release of spectacular new single, “Thin,” the follow up to “I Could Fight On A Wall.” The track boasts the duo’s most direct and emotional lyrics to date and continues a progression from bedroom-based laptop producers to sonic innovators.“Thin” is available for purchase or streaming via Harvest Records HERE, or on YouTube HERE.

“Thin” is the second track to be heard from Aquilo’s new project ii, which will be released in two halves. Side A, featuring five tracks, will come next month while the second half, Side B, will be released in 2018.

“We’re doing things differently,” explains Ben Fletcher. “Streaming has changed how we all consume music. We still love the album format, but it needs updating. Releasing an album in two halves is our way of doing that.”

On “Thin,” the listener stands alongside the band, watching someone in crisis ‘smoking in the kitchen, drinking wine that’s not your own’ and dancing alone too long. Opening with folky acoustic guitar and Tom Higham‘s spine-tingling vocals before the hypnotic percussion kicks in, and featuring Bonobo’s brass section, ‘Thin’ is at once Aquilo at their poppiest and most devastatingly dark.

Thin was written about a friend of ours who was going through a terrible time,” says singer Tom. “It’s a real close to home song. We’d been away playing shows and when we came back, we could tell how much he’d changed. We tried to capture the guilt we felt at not being able to help.”

Following the success of their debut album, Silhouettes, earlier this year, the former Lake District neighbors turned South Londoners settled into their first proper studio armed with acoustic guitars to reinvent their sound. Out went the sampled strings of their debut, in came a new-found fondness for hitting things.

“Instead of using sample packs, we played around with sounds we created ourselves,” says Tom. “We’d slap a guitar with our hands or record pen clicks on a crappy microphone and sample those. For the percussion on ‘Thin,’ we hit wine glasses with different levels of liquid inside. Every song is built from original sounds so each has its own personality.”

The first track to be heard from Side A of ii“I Could Fight On A Wall,” has garnered over 670,000 Spotify streams in less than one month, Aquilo are fast cementing themselves as a band to watch.

Aquilo’s North American headline tour is currently underway, with the band performing tonight at New York City’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg. The band will also perform at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on October 16th. See full tour dates below.  Tickets are on-sale now HERE. The tour follows up Aquilo’s 2016 North American run with Låpsley and appearances at SXSW.

Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher first introduced themselves as Aquilo in 2014 with their larger than life cinematic sound, and have since released three EPs and debut album Silhouettes; produced by highly regarded Icelandic producer Ólafur Arnalds and the ever brilliant SOHN. With tracks “Silhouette,” “Sorry,” “You There,” “Losing You” and “Never Hurt Again” gaining well over 110 million plays on Spotify alone. Aquilo made their U.S. television debut on Late Night With Seth Meyers in March 2017.
