Expanding on the first, already expansive electronic music industry conference to debut in Japan, Tokyo Dance Music Event recently unveiled extra expert guests and details of a programme to exclusively uncover this emergent dance capital. Welcoming panels and patrons this December 1st-3rd, a wealth of experience from leading activists of the scene both Asian and global will examine it from their many perspectives, with a city of cultural extremes to explore serving as their base and backdrop.
 
With yet to be announced events in the clubs at the core of Tokyo’s nightlife, at WombContact and Sound Museum VisionBoiler Room’s curated showcase at the conference and more of the technical tutoring on offer from Toolroom Academy and Ableton Meetup can be revealed. The famed fellowship of Ableton aficionados that is Meetup will invite from their worldwide community the usual slew of seriously certified artists of the platform, sharing secrets of the software. Toolroom has their own tricks of the trade, definitively tested over the course of their label, radio and TV ventures – a veritable trove of knowledge assisting interactive, interpersonal tuition.

The panels begin to take shape with a diverse and versatile congress, covering their world in its many aspects and offering unmatched counsel to those plotting careers within it. Mayor Ken Hasebe gives a vision of Shibuya heard in his TedX Talk: ‘Creating a 21st Century City of Diversity’; an LGBT advocate too, Ken promises his unique political insight. This governmental angle is taken further with several authoritative figures, with Jungo Kanayama of the Shibuya city Tourism Association joining in the socio-economic case; enjoined in this meeting of minds Marc Wohlrabe on lobbying as the founder of the Berlin Club Commission.
 
Finessing a championed strength of the conference – and the journalists of integrity that are integral to it – are the respected and seasoned journalists of The FaderDJ Mag and The DrumRuth Saxelby (editor), Charlotte Cjiffers (digital editor) and Hayley Jones (contributor). Their collective capacities for digesting the digital and dance worlds on a worldly scale are well complimented by previous guests from the media. So too, by creatives behind new mediums: Ben Bowler and Ed Jenkins. Founding Chew TVafter building the presence now enjoyed by the UKF music channel at Vice and AEI Media, Ben now presents this IMS-awarded streaming brand of his own. Introducing the world during his tenure at TrackItDown.net to many industry standards of music downloading, Ed now manages chart-topper talent at The Volume Group.


Representing further the agencies at the heart of the music industry, with especial focus on those producing their own art and promoting that of others, are Unmute AgencySupermodified LTDTime Manila, and Pyro MusicArjun Vagale enters the conference as an artist in his own right on India’s cutting-edge, a Techno export, whilst publishing music on his label MakTub, providing for talent via his ILM Academy and promoting through Unmute. Assisting this whole package and attentively supporting Asian artistry with Arjun, is Dev Bhatia. Premier outposts on the Asian club circuit, TIME in Manila and M2 in Korea are spoken for by Plastic City-signed Pav Parrotte and Supermodified – Asia’s first dedicated agency – CEO Robb Harker. The pioneering Shanghai DJ that started its own music hosting service Pyro Music, Spencer Tarring finalizes phase two.
