Vancouver-born, L.A.-based producer Ajay Bhattacharyya aka STINT first gained an audience in 2015 when a string of remixes kept him high on the Hype Machine charts. His soulful, bold reworkings of Q-Tip, Lan Del Rey, and Young the Giant paved the way for the formation of a signature sound with Banks, Gallant, NAO, AlunaGeorge, and Elias.
Stint’s production on recent highlights like Gallant’s “Weight In Gold” and NAO’s “Girlfriend” blend of nostalgic sensibilities and modern textures, paying homage to the past while forging ahead with sonic invention.
After two years working behind the boards for others, the in demand producer Stint returns with a solo EP that showcases the breadth of his style and his progression as a producer since he started posting remixes on Soundcloud two years ago. To pave the way for the project, Stint revisits the road that set up his career as a producer, serving up a series of remixes before the EP arrives.
When speaking on his successes of 2016 STINT remarks, “The past year I’ve been very isolated. Gallant and I are pretty quiet and solitary people so doing the bulk of that record definitely had something to do with that. I was co-producing a lot of projects with this other producer John Hill too. Some stuff will be coming out this and next year from that time that I’m really proud of. I learned a lot working with John. I remember the first day there, Lykke Li stopped by and we were just chilling and chatting about drugs but I was sweating and shaking I was so starstruck. It’s crazy to see how much can change in a year… I feel like a different person. I feel a little more comfortable in my own skin and like I have something to say musically so I decided to put together some songs that would be mine.”
