Spring Awakening Music Festival 2016

Woah! Spring has officially been awakened. The atmosphere and music at Adams/Medill Park for the 5th annual Spring Awakening Music Festival was insane.

While this was the first time SAMF has moved away from the legendary Soldier Field, Adams/Medill Park exceeded all expectations. It was the perfect balance between being big enough to comfortably fit over 50,000 people and small enough where you could move between stages in just a couple minutes and still feel some level of intimacy with the performing artists.

Of course, the headliners Kaskade, Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki and more all kicked ass. You could tell they were excited to be in Chicago and ready to put on a show. But the smaller acts were essential to powering the crowds through the 90-degree heat. Troyboi came on to the Electronic stage at 4:20 on Friday and his hyped up London demeanor got the people going. At the end of his set, when he played his hit “Afterhours”, every single person in the crowd was grooving.

Another big shout out goes to React for setting up this music festival perfectly. Despite temperatures over 90 degrees during this three-day party, there was not one single incident that required an ambulance. There were stations all over the grounds where you could fill up water bottles or get refreshments. Two of the stages were covered with tents so that you could get out of the sun. There was plenty of security to keep the people safe. And on top of all of this, basically every single DJ got on stage exactly when the app/program said they would.

If you didn’t make it to Spring Awakening Music Festival this year that is unfortunate. But if you don’t make it next year, that is on you. Spring Awakening is truly a unique EDM music festival filled with good vibes and great people.
