Virtual Self, the Porter Robinson project, made its debut at EZoo 10 this past Friday in NYC to a fully packed crowd at the main stage. WOTN was there to witness and catch the after party at Output for the CLUBSYSTEM alteration. Personally, this was my fourth Virtual Self set and the best yet! Heads up, the CLUBSYSTEM version was even better. You can catch our full review of the festival here.

For the better part of a year Virtual Self has been underway getting tweaks and production additives. All the hard work is seemingly paying off, as everyone I could see and have talked with is enjoying the experimental sound more and more. There is much respect to give Porter on this endeavor to truly seek out and perfect a new sound.

The festival production wasn’t held up by anything, as fans poured in as expected for anything this man has to play. The darker and Japanese influences shined in this set with polished visuals to compliment. He is telling a story with all of these sets and navigates the shifts in genres with increasing perfection.

Fast forward later in the night to Output, the primer and personal favorite venue in Williamsburg to a much more intimate crowd and sound system that can push the limits of the production. The CLUBSYSTEM set featured a common link to the stage show, but with a much faster rate of transitions that flowed wonderfully with impressive continuity. Without the typical visuals of a Virtual Self set, it all had to come from the music and Output’s sound and lighting. It delivered.

Porter continues to prove his versatility and success in this industry. See below for his latest music video for Ghost Voices, and check out the full list of Utopia tour dates below with ticket links at https://virtualself.co/UtopiaTour.
