Jacolby Satterwhite / Nick Weiss perform PAT: Love Will Find A Way Home

As part of Jacolby Satterwhite’s exhibition You’re at home, PAT—comprised of the artist and musician Nick Weiss (of Teengirl Fantasy)—will perform songs from the duo’s newly released double LP album, titled Love Will Find A Way Home.

Jacolby Satterwhite – You’re At Home Exhibition at Pioneer Works, Brooklyn

FRIDAY, NOV 22 // 7–11PM // DOORS: 7PM // SHOW: 8PM // ADVANCED TICKETS: $20 // DAY-OF SHOW TICKETS: $25 // MORE INFO

Within the album, a capella recordings of original songs left behind by Satterwhite’s mother Patricia are remixed and manipulated into propulsive, electronic dance tracks that feature a range of other collaborators.

Utilizing the album soundscape as the auditory point of inspiration, the performance will synthesize live choral renditions and thematic light transitions into a holistic live-scoring of Satterwhite’s animated works, including the multi-part series Blessed Avenue. Guests from the album will also make special appearances throughout the evening.

Love Will Find A Way Home is out now on Pioneer Works.

About PAT:

Jacolby Satterwhite was born in 1986 in Columbia, South Carolina. He received his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Arts, Baltimore and his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Satterwhite’s work has been presented in numerous exhibitions both in the United States and in Europe, including most recently at Pioneer Works, New York (2019); Fabric Workshop & Museum, Philadelphia (2019); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2019); the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2019); the Minneapolis Institute of Art (2019); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2018); Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (2018); New Museum, New York (2017); Public Art Fund, New York (2017); San Francisco Museum of Art, San Francisco (2017); and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia (2017). He was awarded the United States Artist Francie Bishop Good & David Horvitz Fellowship in 2016. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among others. In 2019, Satterwhite collaborated with Solange Knowles on her visual album, When I Get Home.

Nick Weiss began his music career as one-half of Teengirl Fantasy, an ever-evolving electronic music duo established in 2009. Weiss and bandmate Logan Takahashi’s music as Teengirl Fantasy has been described by critics as “dream-beat,” an atmospheric yet driving sound that pulls elements from deep house to shoegaze. Weiss participated in the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo under his new solo production guise Nightfeelings, and has since co-produced albums for artists ranging from SSION’s noise pop to Lafawndah’s ritual club music. For the past three years, Weiss has collaborated with Jacolby Satterwhite on re-imagining his mother Patricia’s a capella songs as electronic odysseys.

PAT: You’re at home is presented as part of the Performa 19 Biennial.

About Love Will Find A Way Home:

PAT takes its name from Satterwhite’s mother Patricia, who suffered from schizophrenia and passed away in 2016. She left behind hundreds of a capella recordings of original songs, which the duo remixed and manipulated into propulsive, electronic dance tracks that feature a range of other collaborators. Inspired by projects like Tricky’s album Maxinequay and Daft Punk’s feature-length animated film Interstella 5555, Love Will Find A Way Home is both a fully-produced album of its own and a score for a related, four-part series of films animated by Satterwhite. Released by Pioneer Works Press, it will feature a cover shot by Wolfgang Tillmans, and a booklet containing lyrics and drawings by Patricia Satterwhite. The album is now available here.
