Lia Marie Johnson recently premiered the video for her new track “Cold Heart Killer.” Shot by director Sarah Bahbah, the video was filmed on a Super 8 camera with only one chance to shoot every take.
Says Lia, “Cold Heart Killer” represents that dreamy and sultry feeling of craving someone who you’ve held onto for too long, thinking they could’ve been something more. Filming the lyric video kind of tied up all of those feelings into one visual to show what it’s like to be with someone else to take your mind off them, feeling high and finding love for yourself again.” The sumptuous, trip-hop laced ballad evokes late night longings for an ex, despite one’s better judgment. Lia co-wrote the song with producer Matias Gabriel Mora, co-producer Mia Gabriella Minichiello and Susanna Yankou. Watch it HERE.
Recently named as one of V Magazine’s 2017 Artists To Watch, Lia is currently working on her debut EP, which will be released by Capitol Records later this year. “Cold Heart Killer” is the follow-up to her debut single, “DNA,”a deeply personal song about her father’s battle with addiction which has already racked up 17 million streams since its release. The accompanying video, which V Magazine deemed, a “brave, haunting (and) an intensely emotional watch,” was conceptualized by Lia and has more than seven million views. The Huffington Post praised it as “powerful, dramatic and heart-felt” while Teen Vogue said it’s “the kind of song that you won’t be able to get out of your head.” Galore noted, “‘DNA’ features eerily bare piano, moves us forward with the driving beat of a melodic chorus, showcases Lia’s vulnerable vocals and finishes with a beautiful crescendo of strings – making for an emotional, but well-worth it, roller coaster ride of a song.”
Lia first became known via her YouTube channel, followed by roles in the Emmy-winning web series REACT, which is the most successful web series in history with close to one billion views. In 2015, she was named one of the Top 100 YouTubers in the world. The 20-year-old San Diego native currently has an actively engaged 1.6 million Instagram followers and over 1.7 million YouTube subscribers. Lia starred in the AwesomenessTV/Dreamworks Animation film Expelled opposite Cameron Dallas, and also starred in American Wrestler: The Wizard with Jon Voight, the TV series T@gged, and the recent thriller The Thinning, out now via YouTube Red.
