Last Saturday was another packed house at Avant Gardner for the return of techno sensation Charlotte de Witte, with support from Monoloc, Victor Ruiz (NYC debut), and Ramsey Neville. The Belgian DJ spared no expense with putting on an outstanding show. Techno is only gaining more ground in New York City (and the U.S. as a whole), so we knew the show would be great. But Charlotte de Witte truly delivered a set that hit all the right parts of dark, melodic, and heavy-hitting techno sounds.
Charlotte de Witt at Avant Gardner
De Witte has had a meteoric rise in America. And this year’s festival season is sure to solidify her positioning as techno great. In fact, Charlotte de Witte’s remix of Space Raiders, by Eats Everything is getting lots of playtime from other artists. Not only is it well-earned, but it’s a harbinger for what’s to come.
Her set seriously delivered. I had gone into the night not knowing what to expect, but as rumor would have it Charlotte de Witte knows all the right strings to pull when it comes to engaging an audience. She was able to read and play to the crowd perfectly. The set kept a nice pace and partygoers were satisfied late into the night. Monoloc preceded her, and when the two joined together for a few tracks the chemistry and fun were palpable.
Avant Gardner continues to shine for artists of this caliber and what they need from a production environment. This show proves how spending hours at a venue can fly by when done correctly.
The biggest headline coming out of techno at the moment is that it’s no longer a boy’s club. Charlotte de Witte continues to stand out among the women taking over the genre.
Be sure to tune into her Coachella live stream on Sunday 4/21 at 10pm eastern from the Yuma Tent below. And catch up on her music and tour at http://www.charlottedewittemusic.com/
